When can we Claim Compensation?

What is covered

TravelAudit collects compensation from airlines on behalf of our clients according to EU Regulation 261/2004. The purpose of the regulation is to strengthen the air passenger's rights in case of canceled and delayed flights. Hence, airlines are required to pay compensation to delayed air passengers.

When are air passengers entitled to compensation?

The rules apply for all flights inside and out of the EU and on trips to the EU operated by an EU-based carrier. The traveler is eligible for financial compensation when the traveler arrives more than two hours later to his destination as a result of the flight being:

cancelled
delayed
redirected to another airport
overbooked and the passenger is denied boarding

If the cause of the flight irregularity is extraordinary circumstances such as bad weather, natural disasters, certain strikes or terrorist threats, the airlines may have the right to refuse any financial compensation.

Up to 600 euros for irregularities in the past three years

A delayed or cancelled flight may entitle the passenger to a compensation of up to 600 euros. The amount of compensation is depending on distance of the flight and the duration of the delay. The rates are as follows:

250 Euro - Over 2 hours delay on a flight of up to 1,500 km.
400 Euro - Over 3 hours delay on a flight of 1,500-3,500 km.
600 Euro - Over 4 hours delay on a flight of more than 3,500 km.

Compensation claims expires after 2-10 years depending on which country the claim is filed. At the start of a collaboration with TravelAudit, we identify all cancelled and delayed flights that are not yet expired and request compensation from airlines.
